There is a slogan that you can see in many high school and college baseball training areas.

It reads: ‘Defense wins championships’.

Simple. Elegant.

Correct.

And it was the lack of that- something the Cubs have lacked all season long- that did them in. Players playing out of position (#Addison Russell) or playing where they really don’t belong (#Kris Bryant). Part of it is bad luck; when #Mike Olt was injured that forced them to play Bryant there.

The other is because #Starlin Castro is still at short, and a far better defender-Russell- is at second, where he is struggling manfully to learn another position at the major league level...
